Mansfeild Mill Ralph S. Man and Julian Feild established a mill at the community of Walnut Creek, which was later named "Mansfield", a combination of the two names, Man and Feild. Man and Feild arrived in this area around 1859-1860. Upon their arrival they built a small mill on the corner of East Broad and Water (Main) Streets. Due to the volume of business, they soon built a much larger steam-operated mil with the best milling equipment available. During the Civil War the mill operated and supplied food to the Confederate Government.
